Berdena Joyaux Brady Obituary (1917

Berdena Joyaux Brady, 93, a resident of the Aloha community died Tuesday morning, October 26, 2010 at her friend's home. Services will be privately held Berdena was born on January 25, 1917 in Banks, OR. She was one of six children born to James and Margaret (May) Garrigus. Berdena was raised in Banks until the age of seven when she moved with her family to Hillsboro where she attended Peter Bosco School. As a young teenager she moved again into Portland, OR. Here she attended Roosevelt High School. While attending she became a Rose Festival Princess. Berdena was united in marriage to Jean Joyaux in 1934. Following their marriage they made their home in San Luis Obispo, CA. They divorced in 1937. Berdena then moved to Castella, CA and after some time married John Brady in 1941. They made their home in San Francisco, CA until 1947 when they moved to Burlingame, CA. She was later divorced, but made her home there until 1977 when she moved to Hillsboro following her retirement. Berdena was a loving mother to her only son, Henri; she had also worked for the US Postal service for over 30 years. She enjoyed current events, and volunteering at Tuality Community Hospital and at the VA Hospital in Portland. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed keeping a tidy and clean home and was a good cook and baker. She loved music from the '30s and '40s. While in high school she participated in basketball. She was close to her immediate family but very seldom roamed far from her home. She joined the Catholic Church as a young woman and has been a member since. She was very proud of her family heritage and became an active member of the DAR. She was preceded in death by her parents and all five of her siblings. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Henri and Patricia Joyaux of Cornelius, OR, seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to favorite charity or Washington County Hospice.
