Bette Diane Jackson, 80, a resident of the Hillsboro community passed away on November 1, 2017 at her home.
Bette was born on May 24, 1937 in Salem, OR. She was the oldest of six children born to Richard Leroy and Beverly Mae (Love) Pitcher. She was raised in the Laurelhurst District in Portland, attending Washington High School and graduating with the Class of 1955. She then attended Willamette University for two years.
She met her future husband, William "Bill" Jackson, while attending Willamette. They soon began dating and they were married in June 1957. They made their home in Salem until 1973 when they moved to Hillsboro. Bill passed away in 2005.
Bette was a loving and devoted mother to her three children; Julie, Bill Jr. and Michael. She also worked outside the home as a financial system analyst for companies including Floating Point Systems and Pacific Technology. Bette loved the outdoors, she was a pilot and played competitive softball until age 66. She and Bill believed "Why drive when you can fly." They flew and camped everywhere from Canada to Baja, Oshkosh to Bahamas. She also piloted one of their airplanes, the Bonanza, in the Palms-to-Pines air race. Their biggest fly-out was a commercial flight to New Zealand, then chartering small planes to travel around the country for weeks. Bette loved making things with her hands including wood carving, quilting and calligraphy. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; son-in-law Mike Ramsby; her parents; and siblings Jim Pitcher and Sharon Grannis.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: Julie Jackson of Woodburn, Bill Jr and Joan Jackson of Beaverton, Michael and Julie Ann Jackson of Clarkston, WA; five sisters/sisters-in-law Charlotte Keane, Marjorie Jackson, Judy Myers, Susan Pitcher and Lynda Slorp; eight grandchildren: Bill III, Scott, Ben, Dianne, Brooke, David, Rachel, Logan; and three great grandchildren: Christine, Kylea and Ender.
