Cameron "Dale" Seitz Obituary (1925

Cameron Dale Seitz passed away with loved ones beside him at Jennings McCall Center on January 13, 2019 in Forest Grove, Oregon at the age of 93. Dale is survived by his children: Denise Engen, Carla Clark, Cameron Seitz and Brian Seitz as well as 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and brother Francis G. "Red" Seitz. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Doris Bernice "Toni" (Montan) Seitz. Dale was born on July 6, 1925 in Clay Center, Kansas to Joseph Luther and Dorothy Viola (Hill) Seitz. He was the second of five sons. As a child he spent his early years growing up in Morganville, Kansas, attending Morganville and Green KS schools. In the summer of 1935, with his parents and brothers Harold, Noel (Swede), and Francis (Red), the family moved to Empire, Oregon, seeking better employment. Dale attended Empire School then North Bend High School. Dale worked at Cape Arago Lumber Company while attending High School and graduated in 1943. After graduation Dale enlisted in the Navy and was trained to be a radio operator at the Navy Radio School in Boulder, Colorado. He was assigned to the Pacific Fleet and saw active duty as radioman on a PC-461 -class submarine chaser. He was recalled to duty during the Korean conflict to serve as a radio instructor. After the war, Dale returned to Empire, working for Coos Bay Lumber Company. He was married on June 9, 1951 for a short time to Ione DeLores "De" Brady and had a beautiful daughter in 1952. Denise shared his bright copper penny red hair but regretfully only saw her dad on occasion throughout her childhood. Thankfully Denise was reacquainted with her second family in adulthood. Dale and Toni met in Coos Bay, Oregon and were married in Stevenson, Washington on November 23, 1953. They soon moved to Southern California with their young daughter Carla Sue. Cameron Douglas "Corky" was born in 1958 and Brian Dale in 1961. The family settled in Sylmar, California until moving back "home" to Oregon in 1974. They resettled in Forest Grove where Dale and Toni lived for the past 43 years. Dale joined Toni in Heaven just shy of one year of her passing. Dale worked in the lumber industry most of his working life having many jobs including green chain, grader, and tallyman at Cape Arago Lumber and Coos Bay Lumber Companies; retail sales and truck driver for Anawalt Lumber in Southern California and Copeland Lumber in Hillsboro and Forest Grove, Oregon. Dale retired well into his 70's after serving as hangar janitor and aircraft detailer at then Louisiana Pacific's flight department located at Hillsboro Airport. Dale enjoyed woodworking, gardening, barbershop quartet singing, but mostly dancing swing, square, and waltz with his beloved wife. Dale was an active member of the Odd Fellows organization and enjoyed numerous picnics with friends at the Hahn Ranch. Dale loved his home and had a second career with his "honey do" list. Building wood toys that Toni designed, as well as patio decks, raised garden beds, and upkeep of a 100 year old home kept Dale and Toni very busy! Dale will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His smile and laugh were contagious and his quick wit and prolific quips entertained each of us profoundly. A memorial is scheduled for Thursday, February 28th at 11:00 am at United Church of Christ, 2032 College Way, Forest Grove, OR 97116. The Rev. Dr. Richard Osburn will officiate the rite and there will be a brief Odd Fellows ceremony following. All are welcome to attend and celebrate.
