Dorothy Rose Kellar

Dorothy Rose Kellar, 88, a longtime resident of the Hillsboro community passed away on September 23, 2015 at her home with her husband of 67 years by her side.

Dorothy was born on April 23, 1927 in Badger, SD. She was one of eight children born to Ralph L. and Elizabeth A. Crothers. She was educated in Badger and Arlington, SD, completing her formal education at South Dakota State University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Education.

She met her future husband, Elden Kellar, while in college. They were married on March 29, 1948 in Madison, SD. where they made their home until 1954 when they moved to Rainer, OR. In 1959 they settled in Hillsboro, OR.

Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife and mother to her husband and five children. She was known for her unselfishness and caring attitude, always putting others before herself. Following college, she was a high school teacher before raising a family and spending several years as a homemaker. She later worked as an educational assistant in Hillsboro. Dorothy was an active member at her parish, St. Matthew, where she sang in the choir for nearly 50 years. Dorothy had a passion for music and played the baritone and piano. She was also active in college theatre, participating in several musical productions. She thoroughly enjoyed travelling, including visiting family as well as tours throughout the United States and Europe. Dorothy was a master candy maker, baker and cook, and her home was central to all of the family holiday festivities. She was a dedicated supporter of her children and grandchildren's activities, whether it was sports, music or theatre and kept her mind active through crossword puzzles and playing bridge.

She is preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and a daughter-in-law; Patty Kellar.

Survivors include her loving husband, Elden, five children and their spouses; Beth and Tom Ardell of Portland, Bob and Tammy Kellar of Vancouver, Bill Kellar of Charlotte, NC, Susan and Ken Roy of Portland, Scott and Katrina Kellar of Hillsboro, a sister Ramona Clements of Lakewood, CA, thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 475 SE Third Ave in Hillsboro.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with a reception following at the Parish Hall.
