Elizabeth "Bessie" Julia Lane Obituary (1917

Elizabeth "Bessie" Julia Lane, 99, a resident of the Hillsboro community passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Empress Health and Rehab home in Hillsboro. Bessie was born on July 12, 1917 in Wichita, KS. She was the fifth of eight children born to Adolf and Elizabeth (Mitchell) Scheier. She moved with her family to Springer, NM and here she attended school graduating from Roy High School with the Class of 1935. She met Elmer Hartzell while he was attending his last year in high school in Roy and Bessie came home from nursing trainingwhile on vacation. They were married in 1941 in Baltimore. They followed Elmer's work which had them moving to his family's ranch in Montana and then following the war to Morenci, AZ. upon his father's death the family moved back to the family ranch in Montana until 1953 when they settled in Hillsboro. They divorced in 1960. Bessie met her husband, J.D. Lane, through Bessie's daughter. They soon started a four year courtship that ended in a marriage on October 19, 1966 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro. They made their home in Hillsboro. Bessie was a loving and devoted mother to her three children Francis, Elizabeth and Stanley. She also worked outside the home as a RN primarily for Dr Bower of Hillsboro. She enjoyed reading, gardening and canning fruits . She was an excellent cook and enjoyed road trip to family reunions. She listened to Honky Tonk music and was an excellent card player. She is preceded in death by her husband, JD, a son Stanley, her parents and six siblings. She is survived by two children and their spouses; Francis and Gala Hartzell of Srem, Bulgaria. Elizabeth Ann Bowerman of Ocean Park, WA, a sister Catherine Ditzhazy, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
