Elmer William Vanderzanden

Elmer William Vanderzanden, 83, a resident of the Forest Grove community on Thursday morning, January 24, 2007 at the Haven House Foster care home in Forest Grove.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the Visitation Catholic Church 4289 NW Visitation Rd. in Verboort.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort.

Rites of Christian Burial and Vault interment will follow the Funeral Mass.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Burial Rites to be held at the Harris Center in Verboort.

Elmer was born on August 4, 1924 in Verboort, OR. He was one of nine children born to Bill and Louise (Vandomelon)Vanderzanden. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Verboort up through the eighth grade.

He served his country during WWII in the US Army. He served in the European theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Elmer was united in marriage to Corinne (Franck) on August 4, 1947 in Verboort, Oregon following their marriage they made their home on the farm they have lived since.

Elmer was a logger all of his life. He had worked for Lyda brothers Logging for over 20 years. He also had worked as a Maintenance Tech, before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He liked to garden and playing cards with his siblings and family. Elmer has been a member of the Visitation Parish since he was a child. He was very patriotic of his country and proud of his time he had spent serving his country.

Survivors include his wife of 60years, Corinne of the family home, six children and their spouses; Sandra and Larry Myrick of Yamhill, OR, Pat Bryan of Portland, OR, Mary and Dave Huft of Forest Grove, OR, Shelly and Rick Hollingsworth of Beaver Creek, OR, Donald Vanderzanden of Kansas City, OR, David Vanderzanden of Portland, OR, seven siblings and their spouses; Dick and Millie Vanderzanden of Verboort, OR, Art and Pat Vanderzanden of Verboort, OR, Virginia Herinckx of Mt Angel, OR, Viola Vandehey of Thatcher, OR, Melitta Kadell of Dilley, OR, Agnes Richardson of Seattle, WA, Eva and Chuck Yost of Washington, one sister-in-law; Joyce Vanderzanden of Forest Grove, OR, 14 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
