Gabrielle Groshong Obituary (1958 - 2026)

Gabrielle Marie Groshong (“Gabi”) was born October 20, 1958 to Dan and Frances Groshong in Portland, Oregon. She was the seventh of what would become a family of 11 children born over 14 years - a lively and loving family that shaped so much of who Gabi was in her life - and included siblings Chuck, Chris, Susan, Julie, Patti, Karl, Moni, Domi, Joe and Michelle. Gabi spent her early childhood in Milwaukie, Oregon, until the family moved when she was 10 years old to Denver, Colorado, where she went to George Washington High School. Gabi returned to the Pacific Northwest, and she attended Lewis and Clark College. A college fellowship led to Gabi’s first career, working with U.S. Representative Les AuCoin in both Washington, D.C. and Oregon, where she became deeply involved in political issues and made many of her lifelong friends. Gabi brought passion, intelligence and determination to everything that she pursued. Gabi later joined her father in the financial services business, beginning her career with Investors Diversified Services, which later became American Express, then Ameriprise Financial. Gabi’s talent, dedication and work ethic led her to become a Vice President in charge of their San Francisco office, before returning to Portland where she established her own successful financial planning practice, Point Forward Wealth Advisors. In December 1999, Gabi met Barb Bloom, and they began a life together that became a family with the addition of their beloved sons, Matthew and Joey. Gabi and Barb had several commitment celebrations over the years culminating in a backyard wedding with their sons, family and friends on May 29, 2014. Gabi loved being a parent to Matthew and Joey and was so proud of the young men they have become. Gabi enjoyed music, current events, gardening, cooking, travel and sports (and perhaps liked friendly wagers on the games even more). She had deep relationships with her family and friends, was a force and inspiration to all that knew her, provided leadership and help to so many throughout her life, and will be profoundly missed. On August 8, 2026, Gabi passed away peacefully at home with family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Gabi's memory to Water1st International (water1st.org), which brings safe, piped water directly into homes, clinics, schools, and community centers. Gabi had wanted to volunteer for this organization before the pandemic and believed in its mission.
