Forest Grove, Oregon
Gail Addams Plowe passed away 4 months short of her 100th birthday and on what would have been her husbands 103rd birthday.
Gail was born in Glendale, CA in 1925. She was the middle child, with older and younger brothers, Ned and Roger, born to Herbert and Lyde (Schiffman) Addams. She grew up in Southern California and attended Hoover High. She spent summers at the beach, back when Muscle Beach looked much different and enjoyed acrobatics, impossible back bends and swimming in the ocean. In the winters she would head to Big Bear and the ski slopes. This, of course was before lifts, so it was quite a workout.
During the war effort she worked building landing struts for P38 bombers. Because she grew up as a Christian Scientist, the first time she saw a doctor was her medical for this job.
In 1950, she met and married a handsome young pilot, Harry Plowe. He was a Navy pilot, so they moved around to various parts of the country while raising three children; Robert, Nancy and Roger. After spending time in Trenton, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Bermuda and Fernando Valley, the family finally settled for a while in Walnut Creek and then San Ramon, CA.
With the children grown, Gail returned to work. After several interesting jobs, she settled in the word processing industry: CPT, Pitney Bowes and Dictaphone, where she finished her career as a Marketing Sales Rep. One of the more interesting demos she did was on a submarine!
Sadly, near the end of her career, in 1980, she lost her husband to a massive heart attack while he was playing golf. He was only 58. She tried working for a few years after that, moving to Connecticut, but ultimately retired, moved back to California to build the home she and Harry had dreamed of, solo, in Sea Ranch on the north coast. It was spectacular!
After several years there, she decided the cold on the coast was too much and she moved to Palm Desert. She spent 20 years there, golfing, making friends and enjoying life until moving to Hillsboro/Forest Grove in 2018, to be near her daughter. Gail remained close with her three children, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She is preceded by her parents Herbert and Lyde and brothers, Ned and Roger.
She is survived by her three children; Robert Plowe (Sasha) of Bermuda Dunes, CA, Nancy Perdue (John) of Forest Grove, Roger Plowe of Covelo, CA, five grandchildren; Jasmine Stock (Todd) of CA, Ryan Plowe (Cameron) of CA, Jessica Andersen (Auston) of CO, Mitchell Perdue (Hanna) or OR, Simon Michalke of Germany, five great grandchildren; Jaxon, Jameson, Ophelia, Piper and Iler.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Gail's name to the charity of one's choice.
