Gayus Elizabeth Chesterfield Obituary (1936

Gayus Elizabeth Chesterfield, 88, a long time resident of Washington County, passed away on December 21, 2024 at her home at The Springs at Sherwood. Gay was born on October 9, 1936 in Enumclaw, WA. She was the first of two children born to Frank and Gayus (Blessing) Sweet. She was raised in Puyallup and graduated from Fife High School with the Class of 1954 and that is where she met her husband Richard Chesterfield. After high school Gay continued her education at Business College. She worked for Days Tailored Clothing for several years. She also worked from 1956 to 1959 for the Department of Architectural Engineering at WSU. She and Richard were married on July 7, 1956 and made their first home together in Pullman, Washington while Richard attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at WSU. Together, they had four children; Jeanne, Lloyd, Karen & Kenny. She was happy to be able to stay home with her children. After the children were all raised Gay went back to work as Richards office manager in his veterinary practice in Hillsboro until they retired in 1999. Gay loved sewing for many years, reading and crocheting. She belonged to a Mothers of Twins Club and enjoyed the camping and the "mothers get aways" that the club members planned. She also enjoyed traveling, including a car trip across the US with Richard. She enjoyed taking cruises with Richard and many vacations with their daughters & spouses. She was also a wonderful cook, making many favorites for the family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gayus Sweet. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard, four children and their spouses, Jeanne and Mark Plummer of Tillamook, Lloyd and Shelli Chesterfield of Vancouver, Washington, Karen and Larry O'Keefe of Sherwood & Kenneth and Linda Chesterfield of Maui. Two grandchildren; Julie (John Gaynor), Tracie (Doug Clark) and two great grandchildren; Rylie and Johnny and her sister Fran (Ron) Mettler of Puyallup, Washington.
