George Prusynski passed away on March 25, 2021, at his home at Cornell Estates in Hillsboro, Oregon. He born May 26, 1927, to Stephen and Josephine (Muras) Prusynski, the youngest of eight children, and grew up in Biron, Wisconsin, near Wisconsin Rapids. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids and joined the Navy at 17, serving at the end of World War II. He graduated from Marquette University in 1951.
George and Rosann were married September 2, 1950, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids and moved to Milwaukee, where their five children were born. George's career as a hospital administrator took them to North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Washington and then to Hillsboro, Oregon, where they retired. They traveled in a progression of motor homes, wintering in Arizona for several years, and were active in the Family Motor Coach Association, the Elks' Camper Club and the Roamin' Catholics.
George was a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators and completed a three-year independent study program at the University of Minnesota in hospital and healthcare administration. He was active in service clubs wherever they lived, including Kiwanis, Rotary, Optimists, Lions and Toastmasters. He was President of the Chamber of Commerce in Colby, Kansas, President of the Public Hospital District Association in Washington and served on the Washington State Hospital Association Board of Trustees.
George was always a sports fan and enjoyed watching sports especially the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame football teams. He played softball well into his later years and loved playing golf with his buddies. The pandemic was tough on him because he loved to socialize while he was out walking or on the golf course. He knew the names of most of the people and their dogs on his regular walking routes and often struck up a conversation with anyone, especially if they had a motorhome. He was extremely proud of his family and his Catholic faith. George often drove people to church and brought back church bulletins to his friends at Cornell Estates if they were unable to attend. He expressed his thanks and love to his family for their care, especially in his last days.
George is survived by his sister, Verna Johnson, daughter, Diane (Larry) Blankenship and four sons; Mark (Linda), Michael (Reme), Gregory (Kelly) and Brian (Bethany). He has 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosann (d. June 22, 2018), his parents, brothers Oliver, Steve, Chester, Leonard, and sisters Marcella and Dorothy.
The family would like to thank George's friends and caregivers at Cornell Estates in Hillsboro.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association and St. Matthew Catholic Church.
