Nancy Lucretia (O'Hara) Barger February 19, 1930 – May 8, 2025 Nancy Lucretia (O'Hara) Barger passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 8, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on February 19, 1930, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, she was the daughter of Claude Joseph O'Hara and Grace Belle Bernice (Johnson) O'Hara. Nancy grew up in Iowa during the Great Depression and World War II and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. Not long after moving to Washington, D.C., to work in a clerical position with the FBI, she met fellow employee Arthur Guy Barger. They married in 1949, and in a letter home after they met, Nancy—having misheard his last name—jokingly wrote to her mother that she had found a great "Bargain." Together, Nancy and Art raised their family while relocating for his work with the FBI, living in New Jersey, New York, Ohio, New Jersey (again), Virginia, and California, finally settling in Oregon in 1978 where Art retired in 1981. Nancy was deeply involved in her church and community. She participated in church prayer groups and women's clubs, volunteered for many years bringing the Eucharist to patients at St. Vincent Hospital, and worked in a resale shop benefiting her local library. Her love of family, friends, dogs, ice cream, books, and, of course, bargains was evident to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her son, Kevin Arthur; her brothers, Claude, Vincent, and Billy O'Hara; and her sister, Grace O'Connell. Nancy is survived by her children: Kathy, Stephen, Brian, Joseph, Eric, and Keith; her daughters-in-law: Lilian, Liana, Tracey, Mary, and Claudia; her grandchildren Michael, Joshua, Matthew, Kristin, Zachary, Michele, Allison, Lydia, Kaitlin, and Ryan; and eight great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her faith, quiet strength, and enduring love for those around her. "Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her."
