Raphael "Ray" Florian Trainor Obituary (1921

Raphael "Ray" Florian Trainor, 98, a resident of the Hillsboro community passed away May 19, 2020 at Rosewood Park Assisted Living Ray was born July 27, 1921 In Spalding, Nebraska. He was one of five children born to Joseph and Agnes Trainor. The family moved to Albion, Nebraska in 1925 where he attended school and helped on the family farm. He enlisted in the US Army and served his country during WWII. While serving in Okinawa he reunited with his brother, Edward, who was also serving just 12 miles away. Following 5 years of service he was honorably discharged in 1945. He met his wife, Violet Adams, while on leave in Spokane, WA and when he returned from the service they were married November 14, 1945. They made their home in Nebraska for only one year before moving back to Spokane where they had five children; Kathleen, Mike, Douglas, Roger and Tamara. His son, Douglas preceded him to death in 2010. They divorced after 27 years of marriage. He was united in marriage to Beulah Avery in 1989 until she passed away July 2, 2002. Ray worked for Western Fruit Express Railroad all of his career retiring in 1981. After retiring he moved to Loon Lake, Wa. And lived there 20 years pursuing his many interests and hobbies including gardening (vegetable and flowers) He loved the outdoors capturing its beauty thru photography and paintings. His talents and creativity also included woodworking and working with resin creating numerous lamps, tables, etc.He also enjoyed fishing and ice skating on the lake. He was a master chess player, playing in tournaments throughout the Pacific NW. He also enjoyed playing pool, cribbage, and pinochle. Ray was a Proud American and loved the Lord reading his Bible each morning. He is preceded in death by his 4 siblings: Little Edward, Marie Frisch, Eileen Hopkins and Edward Trainor. Ray is survived by four children and their spouses: Kathleen and Gordon Smith of Banks, Mike and Kathleen Trainor of Aloha, Roger and Margaret Trainor of Spokane, WA and Tamara Trainor of Spokane, Wa and four grandchildren; Jeff, Ashley, Stephen and Rochele,(Brian preceded him in death in 2018)five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A service celebrating his life will be held at a later time. The family wish donations in Ray's name to Meals on Wheels in Spokane, WA and/or the Franklin Graham Samaritan's Purse
