Both Don and Betty were teachers and their careers took the family to many places during Stan's childhood. In 1944 the family moved to Tule Lake California where both Don and Betty taught students at a Japanese Detention Center.  Don would eventually become Principal there. The family then moved to Ignacio Colorado where Don worked teaching Native American children at a youth boarding school. In 1946 the family moved to Chiloquin Oregon and in 1949 they moved to a small farm in Malin Oregon. Stan graduated from Malin High in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served his country for two years while stationed in Salzburg Austria. Stan returned from his service in the military and enrolled at the University of Oregon.
Stan met Helen "Len" Wiley on a blind date his freshman year and it was love at first sight!  They were married two years later and made their home in Eugene until they both graduated and then moved to Hillsboro and raised their two sons, Michael and Douglas.  In 1971 Stan took a sabbatical and moved his family to Tempe, AZ and enrolled in Arizona State. University. He attained a Doctorate Degree in Education. In 1972 his family moved back to Hillsboro. Len passed away on September 1, 2022. Stan and Len were happily married for 66 years!

Stan was the first Principal at Glencoe High School when it opened in 1980. Under Stan's guidance and leadership Glencoe had success in many areas. Stan was very proud of the time he spent at Glencoe High School. He would later become the Deputy Superintendent of the Hillsboro School District. In 1987, The Miller Education Center was opened as an alternative school in Hillsboro which is also something he was extremely honored and proud of.  Stan retired in 1995, but he continued to do consulting work for the school district and was instrumental with the planning and building phases of Century High School.
One of Stan's great pleasures in life was attending University of Oregon football games with friends and family. GO DUCKS! He also loved watching and following his grandchildren's sporting events. Stan and Len took the grandkids to 'Disneyland on three different occasions. Stan and Len traveled to many parts of the United States and abroad. They loved the Seattle Mariners and went to spring training every year in Peoria Arizona and also watched them play in most of the Major League ballparks in America. They also loved to spend time with friends and family at their home at Black Butte Ranch.
Both Stan and Len volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul at St. Matthew Church in Hillsboro for close to 30 years. They were both very passionate about serving the community and providing assistance to people in need.
