Vincent Dwight Dobbin

Vincent Dwight Dobbin, 92, of the Hillsboro community passed away Friday, October 16, 2015 at his home surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church; 30900 NW Evergreen Pkwy. Hillsboro, OR 97124.

Family and friends are invited to attend the reception following the memorial service.

Vince was born on October 9, 1923 in Long Valley, South Dakota. He was one of two children born to Vincent and Esther (Herrold) Dobbin. He was raised and received his education in South Dakota. It was on Vince's 18th birthday that he arrived in Hillsboro, Oregon. He moved to North Plains, Oregon for three years but returned to Hillsboro where he purchased the farm.

He met the love of his life, Elaine Schlaefli, in 1945 through his sister Loraine. After a one year courtship they were married on March 27, 1946 in Hillsboro, Oregon. Following their marriage they made their home on the farm where they have lived for almost 70 years.

Vince has always been involved in community projects and programs and received awards for his service. He was a member of the Oregon Farm Bureau and the Oregon Wheat League. He was an advocate and supporter of the Citizens for Medical Isotopes in 2002. In 2004 Vincent received the Oregon State University Diamond Pioneer Award, in 2007 received an award for his support of the Washington Fire District #2, and in 2008 received the Greater Hillsboro Area Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Achievement Award. He also was a strong supporter for the advancement of agriculture at Oregon State University Extension Service.

Vince's life was farming and family and he loved every project or program he was involved in. He enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit the Holy Lands. Vince enjoyed helping fellow farmers. He was an incredible, kind, hardworking man who will be deeply missed by his family and community.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Vince is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, sister, Loraine Donnelly of Woodburn, Oregon, two sons and their spouses, Ken and Nancy (Petrowicz) Dobbin of West Richland, Washington, Ron and Kelly Dobbin of Hillsboro, Oregon and, four grandchildren, Dean, Matthew, Kathleen, and Elizabeth, and one great-grandson, Isaiah.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in Vincent's name be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences or Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School.
